Ever wondered what those terms mean? Ever wonder why they are important to librarians?
The Brevard County Libraries 23 Things Program is an online learning program that encourages you to learn about emerging technologies that are changing the way we access and share information, and the way we communicate.
This is an opportunity for you to learn at your own pace and to share your learning experience with your colleagues.
The 23 Things Program begins October 1, 2010.
How Does It Work?
Every week, through this blog, you will be introduced to one or two new “Things”. “Things” can be tools, technologies, websites, even ideas. You will also receive regular email updates throughout the program.
For each “Thing”, there will be an activity for you to complete and a way to document your progress. Documenting your progress, and completing the program by May 27, 2011 makes you eligible for an incentive prize and special prize drawing.
Since you are learning at your own pace: you decide when to do the Thing, how much time you spend on the Thing, and how much you want to explore the Thing.
Plus, if you don't finish (or even start) a "Thing" in the week that it is posted, the Thing will stay on the blog, and you can access the information needed to complete the Thing at any time. Just remember: you must complete all 23 Things by May 27, 2011 to be eligible for an incentive prize and special prize drawing.
Incentives and Prize Drawing
The Brevard Library Foundation has generously donated prizes: all staff members who complete the program by May 27, 2011 will receive a customized 1GB flash drive! And, their name will be placed in a random drawing for a chance to win one of three special prizes: a Dell Mini Netbook, a Kindle, or an iPod shuffle.

What If I Need Help?
Most of the Things will include tips, but many you will be able to do without instruction or help. But we do encourage you to seek help when you are stuck.
